THE THIRD EYE
This is a six-look 2019 S/S menswear collection. Influenced by various negative emotions that we experience, from sadness or helplessness to illness. Researchers in physiological and psychological disciplines explored the confrontation between people and negative sentiment. However, either in real cases or fictional, we noticed some remarkable people suffering from mental illnesses, such as the Nobel Prize winner John Nash, the famous scientist Albert Einstein, and Yayoi Kusama, who created the fantasy world of dots. The artist has a wild guess that there is a connection between these two phenomena. The illness somehow led them to their true selves in misery. She believes every fragile soul has a tenacious spirit, so she calls it “the third eye". Based on this view, the vulnerable group shall be guided to find their talents hidden within their anguish.
The collection traced the emotional changes of people. The development of the patterns was inspired by modern dance, in which the dancer searches for herself in a lost situation. Materials and techniques revolve around the beads, which are expandable through water. They were applied to textiles by combining waterproof materials with permeable fabrics.
